Biography:

 

Paul was born in Wellington, New Zealand on November 1st 1959. He and his family moved to rural Wainuiomata in 1967. In 1972 he attended Wainuiomata College, completing his 5th form education to start a short lived career as an Apprentice Motor Mechanic. While working for Lucas Industries in 1978, he attended Wellington Polytechnic Institute earning a Diploma in Sales and Marketing from S.M.E.I.NZ.

 

With a love of music and a discerning ear, Paul made friends with a group of musicians and a new felt desire to mix music was discovered. Early in 1979 Paul moved across the Tasman to Sydney, Australia where he studied at the Academy of Sound Recording Engineers. There he learned the basic fundamentals of Audio Theory and Physics putting them into practice at Tin Pan Alley Recording Studios.

 

Returning home to Wellington, Paul joined and started mixing live music for one of New Zealand's most unforgettable rock groups, Rose Bayonet. From 1979 to 1983 he toured and mixed Sound for approx 250 Bands, entertainers and performers including such NZ acts as The Narcs, Citizen Band, Midge Marsden, The Herbs, The Mockers, 1860 band, and Shona Lang. International acts he has mixed for include Renee Geyer, Herman's Hermits, Swinging Blue Jeans, Tom Paxton and The Troggs.

In between touring and satisfying a need to diversify and learn more about audio, film and video, Paul freelanced for noted Film Sound Recordists Ken Saville and Malcolm Cromie as a location Boom Operator and Sound Recordist on various film projects. These new skills enabled him to work for Television New Zealand in their Avalon Studios as an Assistant Freelance Mixer. Finding full-time employment as a Staff Sound Mixer wasn't a long wait.

 

Outspoken Derek Archer, who later founded Wellington's famous Pirate Radio Station, offered Paul his first studio position as Recording Engineer at Crescendo Recording Studios. Later, he accepted a similar position to work at Wellington's premier recording studios, Marmalade, for Rocky Douche.

 

In late 1985 Paul relocated to Los Angeles, California.

 

1985 - 1988 saw Paul working in Hollywood as a location Sound Recordist for various Video and television productions. During this time he worked with celebrities like Mohammed Ali, George Foreman, Joe Frazier, Franco Colombo, Burt Lancaster and Dick Clark.

 

During the next 4 years, Paul was employed at Complete Post, one of Hollywood's most prestigious Television Post-Production facilities as an assistant Sound Mixer. Under the guidance and tutelage of Ed Greene, world renowned ward winning mixer, Paul worked on such shows as The Academy Awards, The Grammys, The Emmys, AFI Tributes, Earth Day Specials, Frank Sinatra's 70th birthday Special, Rescue 911 and hours of hit sitcoms. Notable artists include Gladys Knight, Billy Crystal, Julio Eglasias, Natalie Cole, The Scorpions, David Hasselhoff, Jane Fonda, Billy Idol and William Shatner. Paul left the employment of Complete Post to pursue his developing career as an independent Television Post-Production Sound Mixer.

 

Paul went on to work at numerous Hollywood television post facilities on various TV series including Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous, Camp Midnight, The Hunt for Amazing Treasures, The Entertainers, America's Funniest Home Videos, Rogues Gallery, Wheel of Fortune, Caesars' Challenge, Vital Signs and US Customs Classified. Paul was now being sought after by some of the major networks where he worked at CBS's On-Air-Promo Dept and was then hired on a special assignment for the Fox Television network. Paul relocated to the east coast of the United States for 3 months where he facilitated the audio department's operational transition during the new Fox Family Channel's ownership changeover and later established and supervised their new Los Angeles based Audio Department.

 

Forming Terra Vista Media, Inc and with extensive experience within the entertainment industry, Paul's talents were recognized and used in other areas. Soon, he had offers to Write, Produce and direct various TV commercials and sports programming. This included travelling to various US locations including a trip to New Zealand with Roy Disney.

In the ensuing years, Paul's impressive Credit List has grown to include working on the A&E Networks Biography Series, on titles that include NASCAR, Steve Martin, The Osmonds, Tex Ritter, John Denver, John Travolta, Kevin Costner, Richard Gere, Lisa-Marie Presley, Tommy Lee, Heather Locklear, Paula Abdul, Mario Andretti, The Rock, Friends, Bruce Willis and Sylvester Stallone. His credits on DVD Bonus Material Titles include, Meet the Fockers, Seinfeld, Monsters Inc, Disney's animated feature Treasure Island, Fellowship of the Ring, Two Towers, and Return of the King. Recently Paul was honoured with 2 Emmy nominations for his Sound Mixing on the famous Hollywood Squares game show produced by ("The Fonz") Henry Winkler.

 

Terra Vista Media, Inc. has recently expanded its Audio Post-Production facility to its 2nd location and continues to work on high profile projects for Jimmy Buffett and ongoing work with the A&E Biography series, Discovery Network, Independent Film projects, and Documentaries for International and US release. In 2004 Paul was asked by American Jazz Master, Gordon Brisker (deceased), previously Professor of Jazz Studies at Sydney's Conservatory of Music, to complete what was to become his final Jazz album Childs Play. Paul continues to work with the FBI on special projects that require unique attention.

 

Recognized for his achievements, Paul has been requested on several occasions to speak about his experiences at various events. He has been happy to share his knowledge by speaking to the International Association of Television Producers, Long Beach City College and a repeat request to speak at Lifeway's School of Media in Warkworth, NZ.

Presently Paul continues to operate his business, Mix, and consults with clients about their production and post-production needs in Television and Film. He recently was honoured by the newspaper, The Long Beach Press Telegram, which completed a feature story on him.
